Emergency Summit in Doha
Pakistan strongly condemned Israeli aggression against Qatar during a preparatory ministerial meeting for the emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha on Sunday. The meeting followed Israelโs attempt to target Hamas leadership in Doha a day earlier. Hamas confirmed that its senior leaders survived the strike, though five members were killed.
Draft Resolution at Ministerial Meeting
Foreign ministers met on Sunday to draft a resolution ahead of the full summit. The draft labeled Israelโs actions as a dangerous escalation threatening regional stability. It also declared that Arab and Islamic states reject Israeli attempts to impose a new regional order. However, the draft did not include proposals for diplomatic or economic sanctions or any other punitive action against Israeli aggression.
Pakistanโs Strong Response
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar delivered a forceful statement condemning Israelโs actions. He described the strike as โirresponsible and provocative,โ calling it a blatant violation of Qatarโs sovereignty and territorial integrity. โAs the Prime Minister of Pakistan has said, this Israeli aggression is unjustified and poses a serious threat to regional peace and stability,โ Dar noted.
Call for Arab-Islamic Unity
Dar emphasized that Israel had attacked a sovereign state directly involved in ceasefire negotiations with the United States and Egypt. He argued that Israelโs actions reflect โrogue behavior and blatant disregard for international laws and norms.โ He also warned that such aggression undermines the global order. Furthermore, Dar proposed the creation of an Arab-Islamic Task Force to monitor Israeli ambitions and illegal incursions.
Full Support for Qatar
Pakistan reaffirmed its solidarity with Qatar. Dar stressed that Doha has the right to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and citizens in line with the UN Charter. He also urged Arab and Islamic nations to unite against Israeli aggression. Additionally, Pakistan called for Israel to be held accountable for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
