Karachi: Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf said the Pakistan Navy maintained full preparedness to target an adversaryโs aircraft carrier during Marka-e-Haq, a posture he said compelled the Indian Navy to remain within limited operational zones.
He made the remarks while addressing the induction ceremony of the second Milgem-class corvette, PNS Khaibar, into the naval fleet. The naval chief emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong, balanced, and technologically advanced maritime force to safeguard national interests.
Operational readiness demonstrated during recent conflict
Referring to Marka-e-Haq, Admiral Ashraf said naval operations during the episode demonstrated professionalism and strategic capability. Consequently, he noted that the response sent a clear message that any challenge to Pakistanโs maritime interests would face decisive action.
The conflict followed heightened tensions between Pakistan and India in May 2025. According to officials, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos in response to Indian actions, targeting multiple military sites. The confrontation ended after several days with a ceasefire agreement.
Modernisation efforts enhance naval capabilities
Meanwhile, the naval chief highlighted Pakistanโs geostrategic location along critical maritime trade and energy routes, stressing the need for robust naval capabilities to secure Sea Lines of Communication.
He added that the induction of PNS Khaibar and upcoming Hangor-class submarines marks significant progress in modernisation. Furthermore, these platforms are expected to enhance operational flexibility, combat readiness, and strategic reach.
Admiral Ashraf reaffirmed that the navy continues to adopt advanced technologies to counter emerging threats and protect national maritime boundaries. He also extended his best wishes to the crew of PNS Khaibar, expressing confidence in their role in strengthening naval defense.
