Swift Emergency Response in the Arabian Sea
In a decisive humanitarian mission, the Pakistan Navy successfully rescued 18 crew members from a distressed merchant vessel in the North Arabian Sea. The operation was launched after an urgent distress signal was received from MV Gold Autumn, which was navigating approximately 200 nautical miles (around 370 kilometers) off Pakistanโs coastline. The rescued individuals included foreign nationals from China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Indonesia, highlighting the multinational nature of the crew onboard.
Coordinated Efforts Ensure Crew Safety
Upon receiving the emergency alert, the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency swiftly activated its Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), initiating a rapid and well-coordinated response. The nearby naval vessel, PNS Hunain, which was already on patrol in the assigned region, was immediately directed to assist the troubled ship.
Demonstrating exceptional operational readiness, the crew of PNS Hunain carried out an extensive search and rescue mission. Naval specialists onboard provided critical medical assistance to the affected crew members, helped control onboard hazards through firefighting efforts, and conducted a thorough technical assessment of the vesselโs condition. Their timely intervention ensured that all 18 individuals were safely evacuated from the compromised ship.
Commitment to Maritime Humanitarian Operations
Following the successful rescue, all crew members were transported securely to Karachi, where they are receiving further medical attention. Arrangements are also being made for their safe return to their respective home countries.
This operation underscores the Pakistan Navyโs strong commitment to maritime safety and its readiness to respond to emergencies far beyond coastal limits. The mission reflects its capability to act as a reliable first responder in crisis situations within its area of responsibility, reinforcing its role in promoting regional maritime security and humanitarian assistance.
