TEHRAN: Pakistan and Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing military-to-military cooperation and transforming their shared border into a hub of trade and economic activity, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Monday.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited the General Staff Headquarters in Tehran as part of an official visit aimed at strengthening regional partnerships and bilateral defense ties.
During his visit, Gen Munir held high-level talks with Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces. The two commanders discussed the evolving regional security landscape and reiterated their shared resolve to expand defense collaboration and border security mechanisms.
According to ISPR, both sides explored practical measures to enhance military cooperation, improve coordination on border management, and promote cross-border trade. The discussions emphasized the potential for the Pakistan-Iran border to serve as a gateway for economic connectivity and regional stability.
The visit also included a ceremonial welcome for Gen Munir, who was received with full military honors by a well-presented contingent of the Iranian Armed Forces.
In addition to his military engagements, Gen Munir accompanied Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as part of a broader high-level delegation currently visiting Türkiye, Iran, and Azerbaijan. While in Tehran, the Pakistani leadership held meetings with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Syed Ali Hosseini Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian, further reinforcing bilateral political and strategic ties.
The visit marks a significant step in Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to deepen regional cooperation amid shifting geopolitical dynamics and shared security interests.
