Pakistan has launched a redesigned passport that integrates modern security features to prevent forgery and misuse. The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports confirmed that the new passports will feature additional details and aesthetic enhancements aimed at improving security and showcasing the country’s cultural identity.
Mother’s Name Added for Inclusivity
In a significant update, the new passport will include the holder’s mother’s name alongside the father’s. This change promotes inclusivity and aligns with international documentation practices, ensuring a more comprehensive identification record for all citizens.
Visa Pages Display Pakistan’s Rich Heritage
The revamped passports will feature printed images of famous historical landmarks from each province. These designs will highlight Pakistan’s diverse cultural and architectural legacy while giving the document a distinct national identity. The visual elements reflect landmarks such as forts, mosques, and monuments representing the nation’s unity in diversity.
Technological Advancements and Security Standards
The Directorate explained that these changes follow the principles of modernity and harmonisation, aligning with international standards. While the core format remains unchanged, the upgraded features include tamper-resistant materials and improved verification elements to counter forgery attempts.
Printing of the new passport booklets has already begun after receiving approval from the Ministry of Interior.
AI-Powered Printing for Faster Delivery
Earlier, the department introduced AI-enabled passport printing machines capable of producing up to 300 passports per hour. The new technology ensures faster processing and helps prevent delays in issuance. Pakistan has acquired six of these advanced machines, fully integrated with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) system.
This automation is expected to eliminate backlogs and improve efficiency, ensuring citizens receive passports promptly.
A Step Toward Secure and Modern Travel Documents
With the inclusion of AI-based systems and updated security features, Pakistan’s new passport represents a major step toward modernizing its travel documentation process. The initiative not only enhances global credibility but also ensures citizens benefit from secure, efficient, and culturally rich identification documents.
