Pakistan, Indonesia, and Azerbaijan have emerged as the leading candidates to contribute troops to a future international stabilisation force in Gaza, according to a report by Politico.
Countries Express Interest in Gaza Mission
Citing a US defence official and a former American defence official, Politico reported that the three nations “have expressed the most interest” in joining the proposed peacekeeping initiative. The officials clarified that negotiations are ongoing and that no country has made a firm commitment so far.
The proposed mission aims to stabilise the Palestinian territory besieged by Israel from land, sea, and air since 2005, following nearly two years of devastating conflict.
Trump’s 20-Point Plan for Gaza Peace
Under US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan, Washington intends to establish a temporary International Stabilisation Force (ISF) in partnership with Arab, Muslim, and other international allies. The plan envisions the ISF training and supporting Palestinian police forces to maintain order and security in the enclave.
Although the US has deployed 200 troops to Israel to help coordinate the ongoing truce, American officials have confirmed that no US troops will be stationed inside Gaza.
Türkiye, Egypt, and Qatar Back Ceasefire Framework
Earlier this week, Türkiye, Egypt, and Qatar signed a peace document with President Trump, pledging their support for the plan to end what the agreement describes as the “genocide in Gaza.” The three nations also agreed to act as guarantors of the current ceasefire, which has largely held since the Hamas resistance group released all living Israeli hostages and the bodies of several others.
According to TRT World, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that Ankara is ready to join an international task force to monitor the Gaza ceasefire. The Turkish Defence Ministry, quoted by Daily Sabah, reaffirmed Türkiye’s readiness to participate in any peacekeeping mission.
Turkey Reaffirms Peacekeeping Experience
“The Turkish Armed Forces, which have participated in numerous international missions to ensure peace and security, have earned the respect of all parties with their professionalism and fairness,” the ministry said.
Next Phase: Governance and Disarmament
The second phase of Trump’s Gaza plan includes establishing a new governing mechanism, forming a multinational security force, and overseeing the disarmament of Hamas. The initiative is designed to pave the way for long-term stability and reconstruction in the war-torn enclave.
