
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is engaged in direct talks with Afghanistan to try and end the ongoing conflict. The discussions are taking place in the Chinese city of Urumqi between senior officials from both sides.
He made it clear that Pakistan went to these talks following its long-standing position of supporting any credible process that can bring lasting peace and stop cross-border terrorism.
However, he stressed that the real responsibility now lies with Afghanistan to take visible action against terrorist groups.
Background of the Conflict
There was a short pause in the operation during Eidul Fitr from March 18 to 23, but the Foreign Office has already said the military campaign will continue until its goals are fully achieved.
Chinaโs Role and Darโs Visit
The spokesperson also spoke about Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Darโs recent visit to Beijing. He met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and held detailed talks on regional issues, including Afghanistan.
China and Pakistan put forward a five-point plan calling for an immediate end to hostilities and the start of proper peace talks. Andrabi said this initiative has received good support across the region.
Moreover, he mentioned the recent quadrilateral meeting of foreign ministers from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt. Pakistan values its ties with these countries and wants to work closely with them on regional stability.
