Pakistan’s pharmaceutical sector has reached a historic milestone, with exports hitting a record $457 million — the highest in two decades — marking a remarkable 34% growth, according to officials at the 8th Pakistan Pharma Summit held at Serena Hotel.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, was the chief guest at the summit and the Pharma Export Awards Ceremony.
Addressing participants, he underlined that industrial policy and regulatory reforms remain central to Pakistan’s economic growth. He emphasized the pharmaceutical industry’s vital role in catering to the healthcare needs of 250 million citizens while simultaneously boosting international trade.
“The government stands firmly with the pharmaceutical industry,” Khan stated, adding that policies are designed to strengthen the sector and ensure the provision of affordable, quality medicines.
The summit also honored the country’s top 50 exporters through the Pharma Export Awards, recognizing their efforts as “Pakistan’s ambassadors” in promoting the nation globally. This recognition underscored how pharmaceutical exports contribute both to economic development and the country’s positive international image.
Khan also highlighted the importance of global collaboration, pointing out that the participation of international experts would enhance knowledge sharing and partnerships. He urged the industry to adopt global best practices and standards to increase competitiveness in world markets.
“Pakistan has the potential to secure a prominent place in the global healthcare market,” Khan remarked, expressing confidence in the industry’s bright future.
The record-breaking $457 million export achievement not only demonstrates resilience and growth within the pharmaceutical sector but also reflects the impact of supportive government policies. With continued backing and a focus on innovation, quality, and affordability, Pakistan’s pharmaceutical industry is poised to achieve greater success and expand its global footprint.
