ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi revealed that Pakistan possesses video evidence of six Indian aircraft shot down during a brief military confrontation in May.
The clash erupted after India, without presenting evidence, linked the Pahalgam attack to Pakistan — an accusation Islamabad firmly rejected. India also launched missiles and drone attacks inside Pakistan.
Pakistan claims its forces downed six Indian jets, including French-made Dassault Rafale fighters. While India’s top general admitted suffering aerial losses, he denied losing six aircraft.
Speaking at a seminar in Lahore, Naqvi said he was directly involved in the conflict and privy to sensitive developments. He praised the armed forces and intelligence agencies for their coordinated role, noting that Pakistani agencies had advanced knowledge of India’s operational plans.
“When the Indian planes were downed, we chose not to announce it without evidence,” he explained. “Within minutes, we received video footage of all six jets. That footage is with us.”
Naqvi also described incidents where seven Indian missiles targeted a Pakistani base but failed to inflict damage, while Pakistan’s retaliatory strikes destroyed a major Indian oil depot without civilian casualties. He added that although one airman was martyred at another base, key installations, including Nur Khan Airbase near Rawalpindi, remained intact.
The hostilities, which began with Indian air strikes on May 6–7 that killed at least 40 Pakistani civilians, escalated into a week-long exchange of missiles before a US-brokered ceasefire halted the fighting.
In July, US President Donald Trump acknowledged that five jets had been downed during the conflict but did not specify whose. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Air Force hailed its response as “bold, aggressive and unwavering,” while China’s air force chief praised PAF pilots for their “decisive and measured” performance.
