Government Shares Details of Military Operation
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has claimed that its forces inflicted heavy losses on the Afghan Taliban during an ongoing military campaign called Operation Ghazab lil-Haqq. The operation was launched in response to what officials described as terrorism and cross-border aggression from Afghanistan.
According to the Pakistani government, hundreds of militants linked to the Afghan Taliban regime have been killed or injured during the operation. Atta Tarar shared the details in a statement posted on the social media platform X.
Tarar said Pakistani forces have carried out multiple counter-attacks since the start of the military operation. These actions were aimed at neutralising militant threats along the border.
The minister stated that the campaign was launched after attacks allegedly carried out from across the border. Pakistan has repeatedly accused militant groups of using Afghan territory to plan and launch attacks.
Officials say Operation Ghazab lil-Haqq is part of broader efforts to strengthen border security and prevent cross-border terrorism.
Casualties and Military Assets Destroyed During Operation
According to the figures shared by the government, 583 operatives linked to the Afghan Taliban regime have been killed so far. Another 795 individuals have reportedly been injured during the ongoing military actions.
Pakistani officials also claimed significant damage to Taliban military infrastructure. According to the statement, Pakistani forces destroyed 242 check posts operated by Taliban fighters.
In addition, the forces reportedly captured 38 more checkpoints during the operation. Authorities said these actions weakened militant presence near the border areas.
The minister also claimed that Pakistani forces destroyed 213 tanks, armoured vehicles and artillery guns belonging to the Afghan Taliban regime.
The government further said that around 64 locations across Afghanistan were targeted during airstrikes. These strikes were aimed at military sites and strategic positions believed to be linked to militant activity.
Pakistani officials say these strikes were designed to eliminate threats and dismantle militant networks operating near the border.
Cross-Border Tensions Triggered Military Response
According to Pakistan, the operation began after cross-border aggression from Afghan Taliban forces. Officials say the incident occurred on the night of February 26 along the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Pakistani authorities described the attack as unprovoked. They said the incident forced security forces to launch a strong military response.
During the counter-offensive, Pakistani forces reportedly targeted several locations inside Afghanistan. These included areas in Kabul, Kandahar and Paktia Province.
Officials said military installations and checkpoints were among the targets. The aim was to dismantle infrastructure believed to support militant activity near the border.
Pakistan has long expressed concerns about security threats emerging from Afghan territory. The government has repeatedly urged Afghan authorities to prevent militant groups from operating near the border.
Authorities say operations will continue if threats to Pakistan’s security persist. Officials maintain that the country will take necessary steps to defend its territory and citizens.
The situation highlights ongoing tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Security experts warn that continued clashes could further destabilise the region if diplomatic efforts fail.
