A two-week bilateral counter-terrorism exercise between Pakistan and Egypt, titled PakistanโEgypt Joint Exercise Thunder-II, began on April 6, 2026, at the Special Operations School in Cherat, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Commandant of the Special Operations School, who served as the chief guest. Troops from the Special Services Group and Egyptโs Special Forces are participating in the joint drills, reflecting deepening military cooperation between the two countries.
Joint drills focus on enhancing combat readiness
Meanwhile, officials stated that the exercise aims to improve professional skills through structured joint training. Participating forces will conduct a range of counter-terrorism operations designed to simulate real-world scenarios.
Furthermore, the drills provide an opportunity for both sides to refine tactical coordination and operational effectiveness. By working closely together, troops aim to strengthen their ability to respond to evolving security challenges.
Military ties strengthened through shared expertise
In addition, the exercise underscores longstanding defence ties between Pakistan and Egypt. ISPR noted that such engagements play a vital role in reinforcing military-to-military relations.
At the same time, both contingents will benefit from exchanging experiences and expertise, particularly in specialised counter-terrorism techniques. This collaboration is expected to enhance mutual understanding and interoperability between the two forces.
Therefore, Exercise Thunder-II highlights the continued commitment of both nations to regional security and cooperative defence initiatives, while also promoting professional development among participating troops.
