Cyber Crime Agency Issues Notification Banning 46 Apps; PTA to Enforce Blocks
ISLAMABAD – The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency has officially declared gambling, casino, and unregulated forex trading apps illegal across Pakistan. In a formal notification issued this week, the agency listed 46 applications that have been deemed unlawful due to their involvement in unauthorized financial activities and privacy violations.
According to the notification, the banned apps not only promote gambling and speculative trading without regulatory oversight, but also collect sensitive personal data from users, including mobile numbers and private information, posing significant cybersecurity and privacy risks.
Among the banned applications are several online casinos, betting platforms, and unauthorized forex trading apps, many of which operate without any licensing from Pakistan’s financial regulatory bodies.
The Cyber Crime Agency has officially requested the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to block all access to these applications and prevent their availability on digital platforms and app stores accessible within the country.
Enforcement Aimed at Protecting Public from Digital Exploitation
Authorities emphasized that these apps are not only illegal under Pakistan’s laws but also serve as a tool for financial fraud, data theft, and digital exploitation. Many of them lure users with the promise of quick earnings through online gambling or forex trades, ultimately resulting in financial losses and potential identity theft.
The move comes as part of a broader campaign to tighten digital regulation, safeguard public interest, and curb the rising trend of illegal online betting and trading activities. The Cyber Crime Agency urged citizens to report any suspicious digital activity or platforms and refrain from engaging with any app that promotes gambling or unauthorized financial schemes.
The list of 46 banned applications has been circulated to all relevant authorities for immediate enforcement and takedown action.
