The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has confirmed that 21 Pakistani nationals survived a tragic boat capsizing near the Moroccan coast.
The Pakistani embassy in Rabat swiftly responded to the situation, offering immediate assistance to the survivors. Provisions such as food, water, medicine, and clothing have been arranged, while local authorities at the Moroccan port are providing temporary shelter and medical care.
A consular team from the Pakistani embassy is currently in Morocco to oversee the relief efforts and ensure the well-being of the affected individuals.
The Pakistani government is actively collaborating with local authorities to facilitate the repatriation of its citizens. The Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding the welfare of Pakistanis abroad and stated that the situation is under close monitoring.
Earlier, the Foreign Ministry confirmed the incident, revealing that the boat carrying 80 passengers, including several Pakistani nationals, had departed from Mauritania but capsized near the Moroccan port of Dakhla.
According to a migrant rights group, Walking Borders, 44 individuals presumed drowned in the tragedy were from Pakistan. Survivors, including Pakistani nationals, are currently being housed in a camp near Dakhla, as reported by the Pakistani embassy in Rabat.
The government has initiated steps to support the survivors and ensure that they are safely repatriated. The tragic event highlights the risks faced by migrants in search of better opportunities.
