Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Saturday acknowledged the United Arab Emirates’ pivotal diplomatic role in fostering peace and stability across the region.
In a conversation with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, the two leaders welcomed the recent ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India. According to the Foreign Office, both sides expressed optimism for a more peaceful regional climate moving forward.
“Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has consistently pursued peace and regional security while safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Ishaq Dar stated on the social media platform X.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that both countries have also agreed to initiate dialogue on a broad range of issues at a mutually acceptable neutral location.
In a post on X, Rubio—who serves as the chief foreign policy advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump—revealed that he and Vice President JD Vance had maintained close contact with high-level officials from both countries over the past 48 hours.
“Vice President Vance and I have engaged with senior leadership in both India and Pakistan, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, and the National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Asim Malik,” Rubio noted.
He added, “I am pleased to announce that the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to begin comprehensive dialogue at a neutral venue. We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif for their foresight, responsibility, and leadership in opting for the path of peace.”
