Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday expressed satisfaction over the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Pakistan and Belarus, aimed at facilitating the employment of skilled Pakistani workers in various sectors of Belarus.
The prime minister highlighted that the MoU was a result of the consensus reached during his visit to Belarus earlier this year, reflecting the growing friendly ties between the two countries.
The announcement was made during a meeting with the Interior Minister of Belarus, Ivan Kubrakov, who was accompanied by a delegation and called on the prime minister at the PM House, according to a statement from the PM Office Media Wing.
Prime Minister Shehbaz warmly welcomed Minister Kubrakov to Pakistan and recalled the agreements and MoUs signed during his own visit to Belarus, noting that these agreements covered a wide range of sectors and were instrumental in strengthening bilateral relations.
The prime minister also conveyed his best wishes to the President of Belarus, Aleksander Lukashenko, and expressed Pakistan’s anticipation for the president’s upcoming visit to the country.
In response, Minister Kubrakov thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz for the warm reception and hospitality and extended the best wishes of President Lukashenko. He emphasized Belarus’s desire to expand cooperation with Pakistan in key areas, including agriculture and industry, highlighting the mutual interest in deepening bilateral collaboration.
During the meeting, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi informed the prime minister that the Belarusian delegation had also visited the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), which would facilitate coordination for the skilled worker program. Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, further explained that the signed MoU formalizes the process for sending skilled Pakistani workers to Belarus.
He added that these workers would be provided with comprehensive medical coverage and other social security benefits while working in Belarus, ensuring their welfare. Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized that the agreement marked a significant step in enhancing Pakistan’s international workforce engagement and strengthening diplomatic and economic relations with Belarus.
The signing of the MoU is expected to open up new avenues for employment opportunities for Pakistani professionals while also reinforcing bilateral ties between the two nations. Both countries expressed a strong commitment to continue cooperation in multiple sectors, signaling a new chapter in their strategic partnership.
