A major development has emerged regarding the restoration of direct air connectivity between Pakistan and Bangladesh, as Bangladesh’s national carrier, Biman Airlines, has officially released its flight schedule for Karachi, marking a significant step toward strengthening bilateral ties and people-to-people contact between the two countries.
According to sources, Biman Airlines’ first direct flight in several years will depart from Dhaka to Karachi on January 29. This long-awaited move comes after the airline received formal approval from the Civil Aviation Authority to operate direct services. In the initial phase, Biman Airlines will operate two weekly flights between Dhaka and Karachi, catering to both business and leisure travelers.
The response from passengers has been overwhelmingly positive. Seat bookings for the direct Dhaka–Karachi flights have already begun, and all seats on the inaugural flight were sold out within just a few hours of bookings opening.
This strong demand reflects the eagerness of travelers who have long relied on indirect routes via third countries, which often increased travel time and costs.
The restoration of direct air links has sparked a wave of happiness among the people of both Pakistan and Bangladesh, particularly among families, traders, and professionals with cross-border connections.
Direct flights are expected to boost tourism, enhance trade opportunities, and facilitate smoother movement for students and business communities.
Aviation experts believe the new route will also help strengthen broader economic and diplomatic relations. Improved air connectivity is often seen as a confidence-building measure, signaling a willingness to enhance cooperation in other sectors as well.
It is worth noting that last month, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Biman Airlines signed an agreement for cargo transportation, indicating growing collaboration between the two national carriers.
This cargo partnership, combined with the launch of direct passenger flights, highlights renewed momentum in aviation ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh, with expectations of further expansion in the near future.
