Security forces detained around 12 Afghan nationals living illegally in Pakistan. The authorities intensified a nationwide crackdown, officials confirmed on Thursday. The coordinated operation highlights the governmentโs renewed focus on immigration enforcement and border security amid rising tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
The law enforcement agencies took targeted measures in various cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Murree, Attock, and Jhelum. The authorities explained that the teams carried out comprehensive screening procedures, checked residency documents, and examined identity cards in residential areas, bazaars, and other sensitive locations. Consequently, the authorities arrested people who could not produce valid documents.
Nationwide screening and document verification efforts
During the operation, police officers actively inspected properties and questioned residents to confirm their legal status. Female police personnel assisted in searches to ensure respectful and lawful procedures. Rangers and Elite Police units strengthened security at key points, while intelligence agencies provided crucial background information to guide field teams.
Moreover, officers registered formal cases against the arrested Afghan nationals. Authorities also detained other suspected criminal elements during the raids. In addition, security teams seized unlicensed weapons, highlighting broader concerns about illegal arms circulation.
Enhanced security measures amid border tensions
However, it is worth noting that the operation is part of a larger plan aimed at improving internal security. With rising tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, the government has been on high alert to avert any possible dangers. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Dolphin Squad were instrumental in helping the government with intelligence-based operations.
On the other hand, residents in the affected regions have noted an obvious rise in the number of security forces. While the government has insisted that the operation is only against illegal residency, they have also assured citizens that those who are law-abiding do not have anything to fear.
