Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry and Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Sunday briefed representatives of various political parties on the evolving national security situation during a closed-door session in Islamabad.
The briefing comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions with India following a deadly attack in Pahalgam, located in Indian-occupied Kashmir, on April 22. The assault, which killed 26 people—mostly tourists—was among the deadliest in the region in over two decades. India has hinted at cross-border involvement without providing evidence, while Pakistan has strongly denied any role and has called for an independent investigation.
In the weeks since, Pakistan has bolstered its military posture amid concerns over a potential Indian incursion, while India’s leadership has granted its military “operational freedom.” The situation remains volatile, with Pakistan’s military warning of a “swift and decisive” response to any aggression. Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts are ongoing to de-escalate the crisis.
According to PTV News, the in-camera session centered on national security concerns, particularly in relation to what Pakistan has termed the “Pahalgam false flag operation.”
“Several leaders of political parties participated in the session,” the broadcaster reported.
During the briefing, DG ISPR Lt Gen Chaudhry updated political leaders on the military’s readiness. “Pakistan is a peaceful country and desires regional stability,” he reportedly said, while warning that any aggression would be met with a strong response.
The information minister also briefed attendees on diplomatic efforts and the government’s official position on the matter. Earlier, both PTV News and Radio Pakistan had announced that Chaudhry and Tarar would jointly address top leaders from all political parties to provide a unified understanding of the national security landscape.
