Pakistan and Malaysia on Monday reaffirmed their resolve to deepen cooperation in trade, education, technology, and governance. During Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s three-day official visit to Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur announced plans to import $200 million worth of halal meat from Pakistan. The announcement marked a major step forward in strengthening economic ties between the two nations.
Speaking at a joint press conference, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership and vision. He described him as a leader of exceptional qualities and recalled his previous visit to Pakistan as “memorable and productive.” Shehbaz expressed gratitude for Malaysia’s decision to enhance halal meat trade, emphasizing that the partnership would continue to grow with time.
He said Pakistan was keen to expand joint ventures and benefit from Malaysia’s advanced expertise in technology and governance. “Our relations have strengthened with every passing year, and Malaysia feels like a second home,” Shehbaz remarked.
Malaysia Urges Regional Peace and Cooperation
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stressed the importance of peace between Pakistan and India for regional stability. He noted that both countries’ cooperation was crucial for lasting prosperity in South Asia. Moreover, he assured Pakistan of Malaysia’s full support in combating terrorism and promoting peace.
In a symbolic gesture, Prime Minister Shehbaz praised Anwar Ibrahim’s newly launched book, calling it a “bridge of understanding” between Islamabad and Kuala Lumpur. He expressed hope that the visit would further cement relations between the two brotherly nations.
Six MoUs Signed to Boost Collaboration
During the visit, Pakistan and Malaysia signed six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to expand cooperation in multiple sectors. The accords covered education, Halal certification, tourism, anti-corruption efforts, and small and medium enterprise (SME) development.
The documents were exchanged in a formal ceremony at the Perdana Putra Complex in Putrajaya, witnessed by both prime ministers. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Malaysian Foreign Minister Haji Mohamad Bin Haji Hasan signed an MoU to enhance diplomatic training cooperation between Pakistan’s Foreign Service Academy and Malaysia’s Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations.
Another MoU on tourism was signed between Malaysian Minister Tiong King Sing and Pakistan’s Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar. Similarly, the Halal Certification agreement was inked by Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Malaysian Minister Dr. Haji Mohd Na’im Bin Haji Mokhtar.
