The federal government has earmarked Rs 1,179.84 million under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the fiscal year 2025–26 to enhance sports infrastructure nationwide. The funding, routed through the Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) Division, is aimed at bolstering both national and regional sports initiatives.
According to official budget documents released on Tuesday, the allocation comprises Rs 779.84 million for ongoing projects and Rs 400 million for new ventures aimed at uplifting sports facilities across Pakistan.
Among the key ongoing schemes, Rs 200 million has been allocated to address infrastructure gaps for the upcoming South Asian Games at the Pakistan Sports Complex. This includes constructing a warm-up track, residential apartments, multi-purpose sports halls, fencing facilities, and grounds for futsal and 5-a-side football.
Furthermore, Rs 108 million will be used for the rehabilitation and upgrading of the PSB Coaching Centre in Karachi. Another Rs 108 million has been set aside for installing electronic display and scoring systems at PSC Islamabad and other affiliated coaching centres.
To further support preparations for the South Asian Games, Rs 70 million will go towards revamping existing facilities at PSC Islamabad, while Rs 53.105 million is designated for renovating sports infrastructure under previously sanctioned schemes.
Additional funds include Rs 50 million for the ongoing air conditioning installation at Liaquat Gymnasium and Rs 150 million for upgrading the PSB Coaching Centre in Karachi.
In terms of new projects, Rs 300 million has been proposed for the establishment of the Arshad Nadeem/Shehbaz Sharif High Performance Sports Academy at the Pakistan Sports Complex, following directives from the Prime Minister. Another Rs 100 million has been allocated for the development of a multi-purpose sports complex and paddle courts in Faisalabad.
