LAHORE: Authorities in Punjab have deported more than 34,000 illegally residing foreign nationals, including Afghan citizens, as part of an ongoing crackdown.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Police said the deportees include over 13,000 men, around 7,000 women, and more than 14,000 children. Meanwhile, authorities continue operations across the province under heightened security measures.
The spokesperson added that security agencies remain on high alert regarding Afghan nationals. At present, 201 individuals are being held at designated centers while awaiting deportation.
Furthermore, official data shows that among those expelled, 10,665 held proof of residence, 11,114 possessed Afghan Citizen Cards, and 12,206 were categorized as illegal foreign residents. Consequently, officials are reviewing documentation as part of the broader enforcement drive.
Inspector General Abdul Karim has directed law enforcement agencies to ensure the complete removal of undocumented individuals. He emphasized that the process is being carried out in line with international laws and regulations.
However, the situation has sparked concern in Balochistan, where some residents have expressed frustration. They argue that despite Pakistanโs long-standing support in hosting Afghan refugees, the country continues to face security challenges.
Additionally, some locals alleged that instability linked to elements associated with the Afghan Taliban has contributed to rising tensions. As a result, observers note increasing criticism reflects growing concerns over law and order and cross-border security in the region.
