France, UK, and Others Join Wave of Recognition in 2025
In a major diplomatic shift, France has officially recognized the State of Palestine, becoming the latest high-profile nation to do so amid heightened tensions and the ongoing genocide in Gaza. President Emmanuel Macron made the announcement at a summit in New York co-hosted with Saudi Arabia, stating, โThe time for peace has come.โ
Franceโs declaration was joined by Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, and Andorra, who collectively voiced their support for Palestinian statehood at the same summit. Just a day earlier, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Portugal had also formally recognized Palestine, marking one of the largest coordinated recognitions in recent years.
This surge in recognitions reflects mounting international pressure for a peaceful resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict through a two-state solution. With these additions, the number of countries officially recognizing Palestine has surpassed 150 globally, representing a significant shift in the geopolitical consensus.
