Viral videos spark backlash over dangerous trend
A disturbing and cruel trend has surfaced in Islamabad, where live fish are being displayed on car bonnets as a form of public attraction. The act has been widely condemned by animal rights activists and citizens who describe it as inhumane, ignorant, and idiotic.
Viral footage shows the fish trapped in a thin transparent film, containing a small amount of water, placed directly on metal car hoods. These metal surfaces, especially in Pakistan’s extreme heat, quickly become scorching hot — causing the fish to suffer even more due to lack of oxygen and unbearable temperatures.
The most widely shared video features a white Suzuki Alto with license plate number BFV 544, registered in Islamabad. The clip also shows what appears to be a car mechanic’s shop, believed to be behind the installation of this display. Social media users are urging anyone who recognizes the location to report it to the police immediately.
Animal welfare groups call for legal action
Animal rights organizations have strongly condemned this act, calling it an example of extreme negligence and cruelty. They highlight that even aquariums limit a fish’s natural behavior, but this public stunt takes the cruelty much further.
Lawyers and rights groups are now calling on authorities to take strict legal action against the individuals responsible. They are urging animal rescuers, legal experts, and activists to unite in order to ban such acts and ensure accountability.
The incident has reignited the national conversation around animal welfare laws in Pakistan. It has also sparked calls for public awareness campaigns to educate people about basic animal rights and humane behavior.
