ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad on Wednesday declared PTI leader Omar Ayub a proclaimed offender and ordered authorities to block his passport and computerised national identity card.
ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra issued the directives after the former opposition leader repeatedly failed to appear before the court. The judge also sought details of Ayub’s movable and immovable property.
Case Linked to October 2024 PTI Protest
The ruling stems from a case registered at Noon Police Station under anti-terrorism provisions. The FIR accuses Ayub of involvement in the October 4, 2024 PTI protest in Islamabad.
The protest was part of the PTI’s movement demanding judicial independence and the release of former prime minister Imran Khan, who remains incarcerated at Adiala Jail for more than a year.
Clashes Erupted Between Protesters and LEAs
The march toward the federal capital triggered violent clashes between PTI workers and law enforcement agencies. Both sides accused each other of initiating the confrontation.
Police fired tear gas at demonstrators in Islamabad and on convoys attempting to enter the city. Protesters responded with slingshots, targeting law enforcers.
Arrests and Crackdown
More than 100 individuals, including several Afghan nationals, were arrested during the crackdown. Authorities claim the arrests were necessary to restore order, while PTI leaders allege excessive force was used.
The ATC’s latest order adds further legal pressure on Omar Ayub, who now faces intensified efforts by authorities to compel his appearance in court.
