Pakistan’s javelin star and Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem is set to headline the 35th National Games in Karachi, as Sindh hosts the prestigious multi-sport event for the first time in 18 years.
Speaking ahead of the competition, Arshad expressed his excitement about participating and confirmed that he is gearing up for next year’s Diamond League along with other major international tournaments.
The National Games officially open today with a grand ceremony at the National Bank Stadium, where PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari served as the chief guest. Earlier, Arshad lit the Games torch at the Punjab Stadium, symbolically marking the beginning of the event.
Arshad Nadeem enters the Games in top form, fresh off his latest gold medal victory at the Islamic Solidarity Games. Competing on November 19 at the Prince Faisal Bin Fahad Stadium, he claimed the men’s javelin title with a best throw of 83.05 metres on his second attempt.
He started his series with a 74.00m throw, broke past the 80m mark early, and stayed firmly ahead of his competitors. His subsequent throws measured 77.06m, a foul on the fifth attempt, and a final effort of 77.98m—adding yet another impressive performance to his growing list of achievements.
