Three-Day Diplomatic Visit Begins Sunday
North Korea’s Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui will visit Russia for three days starting Sunday.
The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed her working visit from Sunday to Tuesday. Russian Ambassador Alexander Matsegora accompanied her to the airport in Pyongyang.
Talks to Focus on Bilateral Relations
Officials said Choe will meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. They will discuss bilateral ties and major international issues during the visit.
Belarus Also on the Agenda
KCNA said Choe will also visit Belarus during the trip. It said both countries invited her for official talks.
Visit Comes Amid Heightened Diplomacy
U.S. President Donald Trump will visit South Korea on Wednesday for the APEC Forum. Reports say U.S. officials have discussed a possible meeting between Trump and Kim Jong Un.
Trump has expressed hope for another meeting with Kim this year.
Growing Cooperation with Moscow
Kim Jong Un recently met Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko in Beijing. North Korea has deepened ties with Russia in recent years.
It has sent troops to support Russia’s war in Ukraine.
