KARACHI: A newly-married girl was found hanging dead at a residence in DHA in Karachi. Police have launched an investigation into the mysterious death of an 18-year-old newlywed girl. Her body was found hanging on the rooftop of a residential building in Karachi. The incident occurred during the night between November 17 and 18 in DHA Phase V. Authorities registered a murder case at Darakhshan Police Station after the victim’s father filed a complaint.
Police identified the woman as Zainab, who had arrived in Karachi from Sialkot about a month earlier after her marriage. She had been staying at her husband’s maternal aunt’s residence in Badr Commercial, where her body was later recovered.
Family Alleges Strangulation and Demands Action
According to her father, Abdul Jabbar, his daughter was temporarily living with her son-in-law’s relatives. He said they informed him that she had gone to the rooftop on the previous evening and failed to return. He stated that they later claimed she was found unconscious after apparently being strangled. He added that doctors confirmed her death in the hospital.
Abdul Jabbar said he believed his daughter had been murdered for unknown reasons, prompting him to seek legal action. He urged the authorities to ensure a transparent investigation.
Police Call Case Suspicious After Initial Evidence
Investigators termed the case suspicious after collecting evidence from the site. SSP South Mahzor Ali confirmed that a murder case had been registered on the father’s complaint. He also said statements of the husband’s aunt and cousin had been recorded. According to him, the police are now verifying those statements.
The SSP said police had detained a suspicious individual for questioning. He added that more individuals were being included in the investigation as evidence emerged. He confirmed that the aunt’s son, Abdul Hadi, was currently in custody.
Post-Mortem Suggests Death by Strangulation
Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya stated that the preliminary post-mortem report indicated strangulation as the cause of death. She added that samples had been collected for DNA testing and chemical analysis. Officials expect the final report to offer more clarity about the circumstances.
Similar Case Reported Earlier This Year
Earlier this year, model Humaira Asghar was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a DHA Phase VI flat. She had been living alone for seven years. Her body was discovered when a court-appointed bailiff arrived to enforce an eviction order over unpaid rent. That case also raised concerns about unexplained deaths in the upscale locality.
Authorities say they will pursue all leads in the latest case to determine responsibility and ensure justice.
