As a cold wave continues to grip much of the country, a new and powerful weather system is set to bring widespread rain and snowfall across Pakistan from Monday night, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The PMD said a fresh spell of westerly winds will enter the country today, triggering rain and snowfall in several regions, including Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The system is expected to remain active through January 27, prolonging wintry conditions in many areas.
Parts of Punjab are also likely to be affected, with rain and snowfall forecast for Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Lahore. In Sindh, scattered rainfall is expected in various areas between January 25 and 26, offering brief relief from dry conditions.
Balochistan is expected to experience the most intense impact. From tonight through January 27, widespread rain and snowfall are forecast across the province. Moderate rain, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, is expected in Quetta, Gwadar, Jiwani, Pasni, Ormara, Khuzdar, Kech, Turbat, Chagai, Taftan, Nokundi, Dalbandin, Panjgur, Kalat, Washuk, Surab, Zhob, Mastung, Kharan, Qila Saifullah, Noshki, Loralai, Musa Khel, and Awaran.
The PMD has warned that heavy rainfall may occur at isolated locations, particularly in Jiwani, Pasni, Khuzdar, Awaran, Chagai, Panjgur, and Kech. Light rain is expected in Kachhi, Sibi, Ziarat, Harnai, Duki, and Lasbela.
Snowfall is also forecast for several areas, including Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Harmazai, Khanozai, and Kan Mehtarzai. Light to moderate snowfall, accompanied by strong winds, is expected in Muslim Bagh, Loyi Band, Qila Abdullah, Gulistan, and Dobandi.
Due to the risk of heavy rainfall, the PMD has issued warnings for possible flash flooding in urban streams and mountainous areas of Gwadar, Jiwani, Pasni, Awaran, Chagai, and Kech. Local administrations and relevant departments have been advised to take precautionary measures to minimise potential damage.
