The Sindh Transport Department is set to enhance Karachi’s public transportation with the introduction of three new routes for the Peoples Bus Service. This expansion aims to address the city’s transport challenges and improve accessibility for its residents.
According to reports, Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that the new routes will include a service from Hawksbay to Tower, starting on July 22. Additionally, Route 12 will be extended to better serve commuters. Beginning July 23, the Peoples Bus will operate a new route from Qaidabad, Korangi, and Memon Goth to Tower, replacing the previous Khokhrapar service.
The department will also introduce an electric bus route from Kathore to Numaish, starting July 24, as part of its commitment to sustainable transportation solutions. Furthermore, a new route connecting Yousuf Goth to Tower will commence on July 25.
Minister Memon highlighted that the expansion of these routes aims to provide affordable and efficient transportation options for Karachi’s residents. This move is part of a broader plan to enhance the city’s public transport infrastructure.
In a related development, last month the Sindh government unveiled additional routes for the Peoples Bus Service. During a meeting with Karachi’s elected MPAs, the deputy mayor, and other officials, Minister Memon discussed the city’s transport issues and announced plans for new routes in Malir, Kemari, Lyari, and district West. Among the new routes is one from Numaish to Hawksbay, designed to further alleviate the city’s transportation problems.
Overall, these initiatives reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to improve public transport and meet the growing needs of Karachi’s population.
