The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has completed preparations for issuing newly designed Pakistani Rupee (PKR) notes and is now awaiting federal cabinet approval to proceed.
The new currency notes, developed in consultation with the Pakistan Security Printing Corporation (PSPC), are expected to feature modern and enhanced security measures aimed at preventing counterfeiting and ensuring durability.
According to officials, the final designs have yet to be formally received for printing. Once cabinet approval is granted, the printing process is expected to take at least two months, after which the notes will gradually be introduced into circulation. The SBP is still considering whether the rollout will occur in phases or if all denominations will be launched simultaneously.
Senior Manager Printing Amir Shams noted that extensive consultations have been held between the SBP and PSPC to finalize printing strategies and ensure the new notes meet all security and design standards. The central bank plans to announce the official printing schedule later this year, providing clarity on the timeline and distribution of the new notes.
The move to introduce redesigned currency notes is part of a broader effort to modernize Pakistanโs financial infrastructure. The updated notes are expected to include features such as improved security threads, watermarks, and other anti-counterfeiting measures.
These enhancements aim to provide greater confidence for businesses, financial institutions, and the public while facilitating smoother day-to-day transactions.
Once released, the new notes will gradually replace the existing series in circulation, ensuring a seamless transition for users.
The SBP has emphasized that the timing and rollout will be carefully managed to avoid any disruption to the currency supply. Officials have assured that further announcements regarding the exact schedule and denominations will be made once federal approval is secured.
