Los Angeles — Streaming giant Netflix has acquired InterPositive, an artificial intelligence filmmaking company founded by actor and filmmaker Ben Affleck, as part of its expanding investment in advanced production technology.
In an official announcement, Netflix confirmed that the entire InterPositive team will join the company following the acquisition. Meanwhile, Affleck will remain involved with the project as a senior adviser while continuing to support the development and integration of the technology.
The deal signals Netflix’s growing interest in artificial intelligence tools that can support filmmakers and improve production workflows across the entertainment industry.
AI tools designed to support filmmakers
Affleck launched InterPositive in 2022 with the goal of creating artificial intelligence tools specifically tailored for film and television production. Unlike some emerging technologies that attempt to replicate actors or generate performances, the company focused on assisting filmmakers during post-production.
The technology helps production teams perform complex editing tasks, including adjusting lighting, recreating missing shots, and replacing backgrounds when filming conditions require corrections. Consequently, filmmakers can address technical challenges without reshooting entire scenes.
To build the system, Affleck and his engineering team trained their first AI model using a controlled dataset created on a specially designed soundstage that simulated real filmmaking environments.
Focus on creativity and responsible technology
According to Affleck, the idea for the startup emerged as artificial intelligence rapidly expanded across the entertainment industry. He said the project aimed to ensure that creative professionals remain central to storytelling rather than being replaced by automation.
Similarly, Netflix executives emphasized that the partnership reflects a shared vision of using technology to empower artists. Company leaders said the tools will provide filmmakers with greater creative flexibility while preserving the roles of directors, actors, and production teams.
The acquisition comes as major studios increasingly explore artificial intelligence to streamline production processes while maintaining artistic control.
