National Disaster Management Authority raises the alarm bell on Saturday. This is a message for people living in various areas as rain is forecast for the coming days. The rainy season is expected to prevail in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan between April 12 and 17. Thunderstorm and dust storm, along with heavy winds, are also predicted to occur.
NDMA Predicts Mixed Weather Patterns Across Northern Areas
Rainfall will hit Islamabad and many Punjab cities. These include Murree, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Gujrat, Sialkot, Lahore, Mianwali and Mandi Bahauddin. In K-P, districts such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad and Haripur face rain with thunder. Swabi, Charsadda, Mardan, Nowshera, Kohat, Karak, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan will also see showers mixed with gusty winds.
Moreover, people in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir brace for similar conditions. These areas include Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Astore, Diamer, Ghizer, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Rawalakot, Haveli and Neelum Valley. Snowfall will dust the upper mountainous zones in these areas too. In sharp contrast, Sindh and Balochistan stay hot and dry. Daytime temperatures there will rise slightly to moderately.
Authorities Urge Caution as Risks Mount on Roads and Hills
The NDMA alerts us about real hazards. Strong winds, lightning, and hail can destroy weak buildings, trees, and electricity lines. It rains, thus making roads slippery for slow traffic. New snow may close mountain passes. Hilly regions facing incessant showers can pose a risk of landslide.
Citizens get specific instructions from the authorities. Avoid unnecessary journeys, travel slowly and keep track of all weather forecasts. Do not approach trees, unstable constructions, and electric fittings during heavy showers. Vulnerable families must be ready now. They have to stay safe from any harm that the rainfall can cause.
