The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) on Wednesday reported a high-level flood in Peshawar’s Budhni nullah, where water discharge at Darmangi surged to 16,142 cusecs. Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to strictly comply with safety guidelines to prevent loss of life and property.
The NEOC, functioning under the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), has identified Warsak Road, Darmangi, and Regi Lalma as the most high-risk residential zones facing imminent threats of severe flooding.
With the rising water levels posing a significant risk to these communities, officials have called for heightened vigilance and immediate precautionary steps from residents.
To address the evolving situation, NDMA confirmed that rescue teams and local authorities have been placed on high alert and are continuously monitoring flood-prone regions.
Emergency units remain prepared to provide timely assistance, evacuations, and relief operations if the situation worsens. These efforts are aimed at ensuring the protection and safety of people living in low-lying and exposed zones.
Residents have been strongly advised to adopt precautionary measures, including avoiding unnecessary movement near flood-affected areas. The NDMA specifically warned against crossing streams or attempting to use submerged roads, highlighting the life-threatening risks associated with such actions.
Citizens have also been urged to maintain a safe distance from electric poles and power lines, which pose additional dangers during flooding incidents.
Authorities underscored the importance of full cooperation with the local administration and adherence to official safety instructions. They stressed that collective vigilance and compliance with precautionary directives are essential in mitigating risks and minimising the impact of the floods.
The NDMA reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding communities, assuring that all necessary resources will be deployed to respond swiftly to any emergencies arising from the flood situation.
