Medium Flood Continues at Kotri Barrage; Low-Lying Areas at Risk
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a strong warning for possible rainfall and flooding over the next 24 hours in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and surrounding upper river areas. The alert also covers the upper reaches of the Indus and Kabul Rivers, where increased water flow could inundate low-lying zones.
A medium-level flood is still active at Kotri Barrage, where water flow remains near 400,000 cusecs. The NDMA has warned that the flood situation at Kotri is expected to continue until the end of September. This prolonged water surge puts nearby communities in danger, especially those in flood-prone or poorly drained areas.
While Guddu and Sukkur Barrages are seeing a gradual drop in water levels, normalcy is yet to be fully restored. Local authorities remain alert, closely watching these regions for any sudden rise in flow or overflow.
Low-Level Floods in Rivers; NDMA Monitoring Round-the-Clock
The NDMA also reported a decline in river flow at Ganda Singh Wala in the Ravi River. However, low-level flooding continues at Sulemanki and Islam Barrages. These ongoing conditions still pose a threat to surrounding communities, especially in vulnerable low-lying regions.
The NDMA’s National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) is operating 24/7 to monitor the flood risk and manage response efforts. Relevant departments have been briefed, and early warning systems are in place. Citizens are strongly advised to avoid travel to high-risk zones and not to cross flooded areas under any circumstance.
Residents currently staying in relief camps should wait for official clearance before attempting to return to their homes. Authorities are sharing public safety messages via media and local officials to increase awareness and prevent accidents.
NDMA Assures Preparedness and Ongoing Coordination with Local Agencies
The NDMA reaffirmed its commitment to public safety by maintaining close coordination with provincial and district administrations. All stakeholders have been mobilized for a swift and effective response to any emergency that may arise.
Public awareness campaigns are actively underway to ensure communities stay informed and prepared. The NDMA urges everyone to follow instructions and stay updated through official sources.
