Torrential rains and flash floods have devastated Pakistan since June 26, leaving 910 people dead, 1,044 injured, and thousands of homes destroyed, according to the latest report from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). The floods have also claimed 6,180 livestock, compounding the hardships for affected communities.
Among the deceased were 241 children, 520 men, and 149 women. Punjab recorded 234 fatalities, including 91 children, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bore the heaviest toll with 504 deaths. Sindh reported 58 lives lost, Balochistan 26, Gilgit-Baltistan 41, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) 38, and Islamabad nine.
The injuries followed a similar pattern, with Punjab reporting the highest figure at 654, followed by 218 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 78 in Sindh.
The NDMA highlighted widespread devastation across flood-affected areas, with 7,850 homes damaged, of which 1,945 were completely destroyed. The disaster has severely impacted vulnerable populations, particularly children and women, who make up a significant portion of casualties and injuries.
Rescue and relief operations have been carried out nationwide in a coordinated effort involving the NDMA, the Pakistan Army, and other agencies. A total of 2,408,299 individuals have been rescued in 4,594 missions, with Punjab leading efforts by evacuating more than 2.26 million people.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan, AJK, Balochistan, and Islamabad also conducted significant evacuations, ensuring timely relief to flood-hit areas.
In addition, the NDMA has distributed over 173,569 relief items, including tents, blankets, hygiene kits, ration bags, food packs, and safe drinking water. To support longer-term recovery, essential equipment such as solar panels, de-watering pumps, and generators has been provided.
To address immediate humanitarian needs, 2,326 relief and medical camps have been set up nationwide. Among them, 694 medical camps treated 199,470 patients, while 1,632 relief shelters provided temporary housing and basic services to more than 85,000 displaced individuals. The NDMA reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring comprehensive support for flood-affected communities.
