Initiative aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals to combat climate change
Lahore: In celebration of World Environment Day, Zindigi, powered by JS Bank, in collaboration with the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), launched a large-scale plantation drive at LDA Avenue 1, Lahore. This initiative, part of Zindigi’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agenda, aims to contribute meaningfully to environmental sustainability and create a greener, healthier Pakistan for future generations.
The drive was formally inaugurated by Atif Ishaque, Chief Business Officer at Zindigi, alongside Vice Chairman LDA Mian Marghoob Ahmed and DG LDA Tahir Farooq, who together planted the first saplings—symbolizing a united commitment to ecological responsibility and climate action.
As climate change continues to intensify globally—with Pakistan ranked among the top 10 countries most vulnerable to its impacts—urgent, long-term measures are critical. Tree plantation remains one of the most effective nature-based solutions, offering benefits such as carbon absorption, improved air quality, reduced urban temperatures, and enhanced biodiversity.
Speaking on the occasion, DG LDA Tahir Farooq highlighted the authority’s proactive environmental policies, noting the mandatory inclusion of grey water treatment plants in newly constructed one-kanal homes. He emphasized the vital role of private sector partnerships in raising awareness and encouraging the adoption of sustainable building practices. He further shared that LDA, with private sector support, has already planted over 300,000 trees in various schemes, and commended Zindigi for its strong support of environmental initiatives.
“At Zindigi, we believe real success is measured not just in numbers, but in impact. By planting trees, we are sowing seeds of hope, resilience, and responsibility for future generations,” said Atif Ishaque, Chief Business Officer, Zindigi.
Vice Chairman LDA Mian Marghoob Ahmed reiterated that, under the direction of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the LDA is prioritizing eco-friendly development. Initiatives such as green buildings, solarization, and planned urbanization are now central to LDA’s strategy to combat challenges like smog and urban heat islands.
This plantation drive aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land). It highlights the power of public-private collaboration in tackling Pakistan’s environmental challenges and sets a strong example for impactful partnerships.
With this initiative, Zindigi reaffirms its commitment to sustainable innovation—not only in digital finance, but in shaping a cleaner, greener future for all.
