He lived an extraordinary life that spanned over a century. He witnessed significant historical events such as the first-ever proms, the first rugby league football game, and the discovery of X-rays.
According to his 1917 marriage certificate, Jose was born on August 4, 1895. His age was claimed to be accurate by Willyan Jose Rodrigues de Souza, a legal advisor. If verified, Jose would surpass Spain’s Maria Branyas Morera, the current Guinness World Records holder at 115.
Jose led a simple and humble life, working as an animal trainer. He usually relied on locally produced goods and products from natural resources. He enjoyed the company of his large family, leaving behind seven children, 25 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
His grandchildren fondly remember his unique lifestyle and preferences. He preferred things from the countryside and loved having a little drink. Up until four years ago, Jose was still riding horses.
While there might be some discrepancies in his documentation, his family has no doubts about his age. They claim to know that he had lived for more than a century. Official confirmation from Guinness World Records is yet to be received.
Jose passed away due to multiple organ failure, a natural outcome given his advanced age. He was buried in Pedra Bonita’s Corrego dos Fialhos Cemetery, leaving behind cherished memories that only a life well-lived can create.
