Why the Supreme Court judges getting much more pay and perks than presidents, PMs, and Ministers?

The Public Accounts Committee has revealed that the judges of the Supreme Court are getting much more pay and perks than the President of Pakistan, Prime Minister, Ministers, and bureaucrats.

The chief justice of Pakistan is getting the highest salary than every other government servant. The PAC disclosed this in its meeting on Tuesday.

Chairman Noor Alam Khan told the PAC members the CJP is receiving Rs 1.527 million as salary. It is in addition to other perks such as residence, free electricity, petrol, servants, and a lot more. Other judges of the apex court are getting around Rs1.47 million each along with multiple free facilities.

However, the President of Pakistan is getting Rs 896,550 as his salary, Prime Minister is receiving just Rs201,574 salary in a month. Each Federal Minister is receiving Rs 338,125 as salary.

Each parliamentarian is getting a salary of Rs 188,000 while a Grade-22 officer is taking home Rs 591,475 a month, PAC Chairman said.

Registrar of SC avoids PAC Meeting

Furthermore, the Registrar of the Supreme Court did not attend the meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that was held to discuss audit details of the SC during the past decade.

The SC Registrar was asked to appear before the PAC for the audit of over 10-year expenditures of the apex court, but the Registrar skipped the meeting.

The PAC Chairman said, “If the principal accounting officer of the Supreme Court does not appear before the PAC, why will the rest of the institutions be held accountable.”

In the PAC meeting, Attorney General Mansoor Awan said the expenditures of the Supreme Court could be audited and the Committee might review audit reports.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the PAC Noor Alam Khan said the registrar had informed the PAC that the audit of SC accounts was under hearing. SC Registrar also claimed that it does not fall under the purview of the PAC and that he was not legally bound to appear before the Public Accounts Committee.
