The Lahore High Court (LHC) has reinstated Lt. Gen. Munir Afsar as Chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), overturning a previous ruling that had declared his appointment null and void.
Last week, a one-member bench led by Justice Asim Hafeez had annulled Afsar’s appointment. However, a two-member bench, headed by Justice Chaudhary Muhammad Iqbal, has now reversed this decision after hearing an intra-court appeal against the removal.
The appeal challenged the caretaker government’s notification of Afsar’s appointment. During the proceedings, the court focused on the specific notification contested in the petition and clarified that it did not address any new rules related to such appointments.
The petitioner argued for the reversal of the single-bench decision to allow Afsar to resume his role. The court’s latest ruling reinstates Afsar as NADRA Chairman pending further review.
