ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, the National Assembly was informed of the substantial amounts spent over the past five years to manage and prevent protests in Islamabad.
The Ministry of Interior revealed that a total of Rs 1,355.8 million had been spent to control protests in Islamabad’s Red Zone during this period.
The detailed figures shared with the lower house during the question hour outlined the annual costs associated with law enforcement efforts to address protests. In the 2019-20 fiscal year, Rs 157.761 million was spent, followed by Rs 96.135 million in 2020-21.
In 2021-22, the expenditure surged to Rs 277.948 million, while in 2022-23, a significantly higher amount of Rs 724.031 million was allocated to managing protests.
For the current fiscal year, 2023-24, Rs 100 million has been earmarked for law enforcement to prevent further protests, according to the documents provided by the Ministry of Interior.
