Federal Government Working on Power Bill Relief, Says Awais Leghari
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has called on the federal government to offer “substantial” relief to low-income households struggling with high electricity bills. The appeal was made during a meeting chaired by CM Murad, with Federal Power Minister Awais Leghari participating remotely.
Leghari assured that the federal government is actively working on a plan to provide temporary relief on power bills and promised to coordinate with the provinces once the plan is finalized. He encouraged CM Murad to present his proposals for consideration.
“The federal government is committed to finding ways to ease the burden of electricity bills on the public,” Leghari stated.
In response, CM Murad emphasized the need for ongoing and permanent relief for the economically disadvantaged. He suggested that the federal government focus on reducing the cost of energy production to help lower bills. He proposed that relief should be targeted at consumers using up to 500 power units.
Earlier, CM Murad had assured that efforts were underway to make electricity more affordable for vulnerable groups. He revealed plans to distribute 200,000 solar panels across Sindh to help mitigate power costs.
CM Murad also criticized other provinces for their handling of energy issues, implying that they have had to bear the consequences of decisions made elsewhere.
