SHC Temporarily Halts KU Decision Regarding Justice Jahangiri’s Degree

KARACHI: On Thursday, the Sindh High Court (SHC) suspended Karachi University’s syndicate decision and the recommendations of its Unfair Means (UFM) Committee regarding Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri’s degree, as reported by ARY News.

The court also issued an injunction preventing the university from taking any further action on the matter.

During the hearing, Justice Salahuddin Panhwar inquired about the number of decisions Karachi University had made on this issue. He also questioned the origin of the complaint and the connection of the applicants to the case.

The bench noted that the Islamia Law College had reportedly sent a letter regarding the issue. The petitioner’s lawyer argued that the application was submitted by a lawyer and asserted that Karachi University did not have the authority to act on it. The counsel emphasized that only a judicial commission could address the matter.

Justice Amjad Ali Sehto commented that the university should have summoned the individual whose degree was under scrutiny and that applications should be directed to the judicial commission for review.

The court issued notices to the Deputy Attorney General, Advocate General Sindh, and other involved parties, requesting detailed replies within three weeks.

The KU syndicate had previously canceled the degree and enrollment of Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri based on the UFM Committee’s recommendations.
