QUETTA: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene an important meeting on Thursday, June 26, in Quetta to determine the sighting of the crescent moon marking the beginning of Muharram 1447 Hijri and the Islamic New Year.
The session is scheduled to take place after Asr prayers at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Sariab Road. It will be chaired by Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
An official announcement regarding the start of the new Islamic year will be made after the committee reviews moon sighting reports and testimonies from across the country.
In parallel, zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees will also hold meetings in other provincial capitals, including Islamabad, where members will gather at the Kohsar Block.
Should the crescent be sighted on June 26, Muharram 1, 1447 Hijri, will fall on Friday, June 28. Consequently, Ashura—the 10th of Muharram—will be observed on Wednesday, July 7.
The sighting of the Muharram moon holds religious significance, particularly as it determines the timing of Ashura, a day of mourning and reflection for Muslims worldwide.
