Rawalpindi Railway Stations Struggle with Overflowing Crowds After Roads Are Blocked

Rawalpindi Railway Stations

In a bid to thwart the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest scheduled for November 24, the government has implemented a strategic closure of all entry and exit points in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, as well as in Lahore.

This drastic measure is part of the authorities’ efforts to control the flow of protestors and prevent large-scale disruptions during the planned demonstration.

The shutdown of key roads, including motorways and bus terminals, has led to widespread inconvenience for citizens who rely on these routes for daily travel, especially those trying to leave the cities.

As a result of the road closures, there has been a significant surge in the number of passengers at Rawalpindi Railway Station.

With the usual travel routes blocked, many people have been forced to seek alternative means of transportation, particularly the train service.

However, the influx of passengers has overwhelmed the station’s capacity, leading to chaos as large crowds of travelers have been unable to secure tickets for their desired routes.

The railway station, which usually manages a steady stream of passengers, is now grappling with a backlog of people desperately trying to get out of the city.

The situation has been further exacerbated by the limited availability of transportation.

Although the Pakistan Railways has rolled out a shuttle train service to alleviate some of the pressure, the sheer volume of passengers has left many stranded, unable to continue their journeys.

The shuttle trains, which are designed to handle smaller volumes of passengers, are running at full capacity, leaving thousands without seats.

Railway officials have assured the public that efforts are being made to accommodate the overwhelming crowd, with an additional shuttle train scheduled to depart at 4 pm today to help clear the backlog.

Despite these efforts, the situation remains tense, and passengers continue to express frustration as they are left waiting for their turn to board a train.

The government’s decision to shut down key travel routes has created a domino effect, impacting thousands of commuters and travelers who now face significant delays and disruptions in their plans.
