As police control in the border areas between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab diminishes, there has been a notable increase in terrorist incidents.
Over the past year, the Sargodha and DG Khan regions have reported nine attacks that resulted in the deaths of two police officers and one civilian, with many others injured.
The Inspector General (IG) of Punjab has linked these attacks to the inadequate infrastructure at border posts, highlighting the need for urgent improvements. In light of this situation, a summary has been presented to the Punjab Home Department, recommending the upgrade of 30 border outposts in the affected areas of Sargodha and DG Khan.
The estimated cost for this project is Rs52.71 million, which has already received approval from the Cabinet Committee. This funding aims to enhance security and operational capabilities at the border, addressing the vulnerabilities that have been exploited by terrorists.
The Department of Construction and Communications has completed a survey of the border posts, identifying the necessary upgrades. A supplementary grant will be allocated to support these enhancements, which are crucial for bolstering security in the region.
The decision to upgrade these outposts reflects the government’s commitment to counter-terrorism efforts and to ensure the safety of both law enforcement personnel and civilians in border areas.
Strengthening the infrastructure at these posts is essential not only for improving police response times but also for preventing future incidents.
As Punjab takes steps to reinforce its border security, it aims to create a safer environment for its residents and effectively combat the rising tide of terrorism.
