LAHORE: Fresh cracks have appeared within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as Punjab Chief Organiser Aliya Hamza publicly questioned the party’s newly launched 90-day protest campaign after being excluded from a crucial leadership meeting in Lahore.
The party recently rolled out what it called a “do-or-die” 90-day movement aimed at confronting the government and reshaping PTI’s political direction. However, the launch has been overshadowed by internal discord, especially after Aliya Hamza voiced her disapproval of being sidelined.
In response to media inquiries about her absence, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja claimed Hamza had been “too busy for the last two days” to attend the session.
Reacting to the remark, Hamza posted sarcastically on X (formerly Twitter), “Such busyness that perhaps even I wasn’t aware of!”
She went further, raising concerns about the protest’s planning and transparency, writing:
“Will someone shed some light? What plan of action was announced yesterday or today for the release of Imran Khan? Where and how will this movement proceed? Where did the 90-day plan come from as compared to the August 5 timeline?”
Adding to the confusion, reports recently surfaced claiming that Aliya Hamza had been removed from her post as PTI Punjab President. However, the party has denied these claims.
PTI’s Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram clarified that Hamza remains in her position, and the formation of a four-member committee was only meant to support her in managing organizational affairs, not to replace her.
Aliya Hamza, who was appointed as PTI Punjab President in January 2025, now finds herself at the center of a power tussle, raising eyebrows about unity and direction within the party ranks.
