Prime Minister Establishes Seven Cabinet Panels; Assumes Leadership of ECC and CCoE

Cabinet Panels

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently announced the formation of seven cabinet panels, signifying a strategic shift in governance dynamics.

Notable among these are the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) and the Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCoE), both of which will now be chaired by the Prime Minister himself, departing from the traditional leadership by the finance minister.

The ECC, now comprising the Prime Minister along with federal ministers for finance, economic affairs, commerce, power, petroleum, and planning and development, is tasked with addressing urgent economic matters, coordinating economic policies, and proposing measures for the country’s socioeconomic progress.

Similarly, the CCoE, also under the Prime Minister’s leadership, includes ministers for economic affairs, finance, petroleum, planning and development, and power. This committee will focus on strategic decisions regarding energy policies and initiatives.

Additionally, a committee has been established to expedite the process of outsourcing major airports and privatizing Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), chaired by the defence minister.

Other committees include the Cabinet Committee on State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), Cabinet Committee on Privatization, and the Cabinet Committee on Disposal of Legislative Cases (CCLC), each headed by relevant ministers to address specific issues.

Furthermore, a cabinet committee dedicated to Chinese Investment Projects (CCCIP) will oversee the progress of Chinese investment initiatives, resolve issues faced by Chinese investors, and ensure the security of Chinese workers in Pakistan.

In another development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with representatives from Barrick Gold, discussing the progress of the Reko Diq copper and gold mining project.

He emphasized its significance in driving development in Balochistan and proposed collaboration with Barrick Gold to establish a technical university in the region.

Additionally, a delegation from the Saudi Fund for Development assured continued support for shared projects in Pakistan, reflecting the enduring friendship between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan and highlighting ongoing collaborations in various sectors, including infrastructure, energy, and education.
