LAHORE – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has confirmed that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has secured a simple majority in the National Assembly, while clarifying that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has not shown any interest in joining the federal cabinet.
Speaking to the media during the 982nd annual ghusal ceremony of the shrine of Hazrat Syed Ali Bin Usman Al-Hajveri (Data Ganj Bakhsh RA), Dar emphasized unity within the ruling alliance and dismissed speculation of internal divisions.
“PPP stood by us in difficult times, and we will continue to stand with them. They have not asked for ministries,” he said.
Foreign Policy and Regional Developments
Dar highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic support for Iran in the face of Israeli aggression, noting that Tehran recognized Islamabad as a true and trusted friend.
“Pro-Pakistan slogans were raised at the funerals of Iranian martyrs, including that of their army chief,” he added.
On the global stage, Dar confirmed that Pakistan has been elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for a two-year term, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace, stability, and economic development.
“Our focus is on economic progress—not conflict,” he stressed.
Economic Recovery and Reforms
Highlighting recent achievements, Dar claimed Pakistan had pulled back from the brink of economic collapse.
- Inflation has declined
- Interest rates have dropped from 22% to 11%
- Foreign exchange reserves have risen to $14 billion
- A $2 billion agreement has been signed with Azerbaijan
“We averted default and are now on the path to recovery,” he said.
Visit to Data Darbar
During his visit to the Data Darbar shrine, Dar participated in the ritual cleansing of the site with rose water and Zamzam, offered Fatiha, and laid a chadar. He was briefed on development projects by Auqaf Secretary Dr. Tahir Raza Bukhari.
Dar also announced the installation of Masjid-e-Nabawi-style umbrellas in the shrine’s courtyard, a project already approved by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
“We aim to complete all renovations before next year’s ceremony,” he added.
National Security and India Relations
Reflecting on past military tensions, Dar asserted that Pakistan responded decisively to Indian aggression.
“When India launched strikes, we downed six of their aircraft. Pakistan, by the grace of Allah, emerged victorious and earned global respect,” he said.
He noted that while a ceasefire with India remains in effect, Pakistan must remain vigilant, especially amid ongoing terror threats.
Strengthening Ties with Saudi Arabia
Dar also revealed that negotiations with Saudi Arabia have been ongoing for several months to streamline visa processes, particularly advocating for greater access for blue passport holders.
Legal and Political Landscape
Addressing domestic accountability, Dar said it must apply equally across all provinces, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Speaking on the legal proceedings involving PTI’s founder, he stated:
“The law will take its course. Sponsored narratives won’t alter the facts. We’re ready to work with all political forces.”
Dar concluded by emphasizing the importance of unity, recalling how all political parties stood together during past national crises.
“During our conflict with India, Pakistan spoke with one voice. That unity earned us respect on the global stage,” he said.
