The Peshawar High Court has granted 14-day protective bail to Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
A two-member bench, led by Justice Shakeel Ahmed, directed the federal government and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to submit a report on the matter within two weeks. The bench was hearing Bushra Bibi’s petition concerning the details of cases registered against her across various provinces.
During the proceedings, Bushra Bibi’s legal counsel informed the court that the application aimed to clarify the cases filed against her in all four provinces.
When asked by the court, the counsel confirmed that no cases were registered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), which was the reason for seeking the court’s intervention there.
The lawyer argued that if cases existed in other provinces, his client should be entitled to seek protection from the PHC. Justice Sahibzada Asadullah noted that since there were no registered cases in KP, the court could still provide protective measures concerning potential cases in Punjab, Balochistan, and Sindh, as it had done in previous instances.
In addition to granting protective bail, the court also ordered that Bushra Bibi not be arrested in any cases filed against her. Subsequently, she withdrew her application for transit bail after being granted protective bail.
This decision underscores the court’s role in ensuring the legal rights and protections of individuals amidst ongoing legal challenges, reflecting the continuing complexities surrounding the political landscape in Pakistan.
The court’s directives emphasize the need for clarity regarding the status of legal proceedings against public figures, particularly in a politically charged environment.
