Karachi – A violent clash between a police constable and a Rangers sepoy—reportedly over a personal grudge—left one dead and another injured in Karachi’s Site area on Friday, according to police officials.
The deceased was identified as Constable Waseem Ahmed Abro, 30, posted at Gulshan-i-Maymar Police Station, while the injured was Rangers sepoy Mohammed Noman, posted at 34 Wing.
The incident occurred near Habib Bank Chowk around 10:45 AM, when both men—dressed in civilian clothing and riding separate motorcycles—confronted each other. Witnesses reported a heated exchange of words followed by gunfire, as both opened fire during the scuffle.
Abro suffered gunshot wounds to his abdomen and right hand and died on the spot. Noman sustained a bullet wound to his thigh and later reached Rangers Hospital in North Nazimabad on his own. His condition is reported as stable and he remains in Rangers custody.
Initially, Noman claimed the deceased was involved in a roadside robbery. However, South DIG Syed Asad Raza confirmed the shooting stemmed from a personal dispute, not a criminal act. Investigators suspect the motive may have involved a dispute over a woman.
Police recovered two 9mm pistols—one unregistered—eight rounds, and two motorcycles without number plates. CCTV footage and material evidence were collected by the Crime Scene Unit.
A first information report (FIR) under Section 302 (murder) has been registered at Site A Police Station on the complaint of the victim’s father, who is a sub-inspector at Landhi Police Station.
The case highlights growing concerns over internal misconduct among law enforcement. Just last year, a similar confrontation saw Rangers raid a CTD office to rescue a man allegedly abducted by policemen, leading to arrests and departmental dismissals.
The Sindh government recently extended the Rangers’ deployment in Karachi for another year, underscoring the paramilitary force’s continued role in maintaining law and order—despite rising instances of inter-agency conflict.
